tuTORIal: DIY Ornament Garland

Dec 17, 2012 at 4:00am by Tori Spelling

Jenny Dixon is back with another creative and easy-to-make holiday tuTORIal! To bring a little extra holiday spirit into your home, Jenny has shown you how to make Hot Chocolate Play Dough, how to upcycle your old holiday cards into gift tags, and now she’s giving us the DIY details on how to create a festive and beautiful garland made out of Christmas tree ornaments. Without further ado, here is Jenny’s tuTORIal on how to make an Ornament Garland:

I love the simplicity and beauty of this ornament garland. It was so easy to make, my four year old did most of the work!

Here is what you will need:

  1. Ornaments (roughly 75 ornaments for 4 feet) - I mixed new ornaments with vintage ones that I found at a local thrift store
  2. Ribbon
  3. Tape

Directions

1. Tape one end of the ribbon and twist tape to create a needle. This will make threading your ornaments through the ribbon easier.

2. Thread ornaments through the ribbon one at a time, alternating colors. Reserve at least 24" of ribbon at each end for hanging.

3. Hang, wasn't that easy?

And there you have it! The perfect holiday décor to bring some cheer and sparkle into your home.

Such chic holiday décor! I absolutely love this craft – so easy to make, and most of us already have the materials. I can see Stella crafting one of these now… A huge thank you to Jenny for sharing this beautiful and super easy to make holiday craft. For more from the oh-so-talented Jenny Dixon, check out her blog Craft That Party!

Do you ever use your holiday ornaments for anything other than tree trimmings? And let me know in the comments below if you’ll be giving this DIY a shot!

Love,
T

Too bad I didn't join until now and missed this decoration! I will definitely remember and save for next Christmas, even I can do that and I'm the least creative person ever!

that's such a wonderful idea! that to me is safer than having a pine garland or fake because of kitties chewing. if you superglue the tops they can't knock them off! :)

Last year I filled a very large vase with them. Just silver and and red balls. One year I made a wreath with just red balls. Some metallic, some velvet. Love this idea!

I put ornaments in martini glass and decorated my bar area with them, they add a pop of color and highlight that area of my dining room. Great garland idea! :) Love it.

Tori - that is awesome! Here is another DIY project that my kids loved.
Grow a pet TickleMe Plant and watch how the leaves fold and the branches fall down when you Tickle It! Use coupon code Holiday at http://www.ticklemeplant.com for a $2.00 discount but first see the video. The TickleMe Plant Gift box set is a great way of sharing your love of nature but I also get some seed packets that I use as stocking stuffers and insert one in my Holiday Cards. Who knew a plant could be so much fun!!

How beautiful and so easy! I wish I had more time this year but this a must for next year. May even go out and stock up on ornaments during the after christmas sales and give them out as gifts next year! Thanks for sharing Tori! Wishing you and your beautiful family a Merry Christmas and and Healthy, Happy New Year!

That is absolutely gorgeous! And honestly looks like something even non-crafty me could do. At the holidays, though, I find the card to be enough work! ;)
