When we started planning Hattie’s first birthday party and decided on an Alice in Wonderland theme, the first thing I did was call up Jeni Maus at Found Vintage Rentals. I knew that we wanted to have a huge Mad Hatter’s tea party table, and mismatched vintage chairs were a must in order to get the Wonderland/Mad Hatter’s look. I already had the long table (was an amazing flea market find), but I called upon Jeni & Found Rentals for all of the gorgeous vintage chairs and miscellaneous vintage pieces that we put around the table. The mismatched chairs and the long table transformed our front yard into Wonderland and really pulled the whole look together, and the cake plates and dishes from Minted and Vintage were the finishing touches to the tablescape.

I work with Jeni and Found Rentals a lot – they provided tons of the vintage chic furniture you saw in my book celebraTORI. If you’re in the area and are in need of some incredible vintage furniture to rent, definitely check them out.
What are your tricks and tips for perfect party decor?
Love,
T

Your party is lovely. I am planning my first International Doll Artisans Convention here in South Florida next year. A HUGE responsibility. I am currently working 2 jobs and have little free time because of this. I was thinking of the theme colors as(of course) pink and black. I do not want to reference any other © on other toy manufacturers yet want to make the convention playful, while referencing the artists and their creations. Can you advise on colors/ themes?
Thank you in advance!

I just love all the small details used for your Alice theme! For my daughters nursery I did Alice, not a very easy theme, but i love it! I ordered her crib set custom from RockerByeBabY on etsy, it was perfect. also, my sister created a baby shower in Wonderland, so all of the wonderful decorations helped to finish the final details of the nursery! My daughter is turning 3 in march, and she has grown with the theme and loves Alice too! I was thinking of throwing her a costume tea party, and that's how I came across your party/website! I'm thankful I was able to find this site, lots of creative ideas like mine! Thank you for sharing so much of your family events! Looking forward to what you share next <3 -
Thank you thank you thank you for this picTorial!!! its has inspired the theme for my wedding!! Not sure why I never thought of it before b/c I love Alice and super girly stuff but when I saw this it just clicked! It is going to be very crafty, which I'm sure you will love. Its not until May 2014 but I cant wait to show you the pics of the finished product!! -
So that's why Oriental Trading is out of stock of the novelty tea cups with straws... I've been planning my girl's joint Alice in Wonderland party since this last summer... (The party is in January.) Sigh. Back to the drawing board as far as favors go... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your party! -
2 thumbs up! It's not often I get to see REAL imaginative decorations that don't involve balloon art. I can see lots of hard (well worth it) work went into this Mad Hatter party. Glad you shared. -

Planning an elaborate party is not something people over here are used to, putting one cakestand on a table for a 'regular' birthday is already considered a bit 'over the top'. But since the moment my daughter literally survived a misdiagnosis, we try to carpe diem on a daily basis and celebrate life on every possible occassion. So we're now famous for our Extreme Cake Stations on birthdays with no less than nine different kind of cakestands and even more pretty serving trays, all full of sweet treats. So my tip: pull out all the stops the way YOU like it. I like to stick to family favourites and my trustworthy and ever expanding collection of vintage tableware. And people dó notice when you pay attention to little details, even when you don't want to exaggerate on anything else. Putting a few different white vintage doilies and glass votives on a wooden table looks superchic and shows that you made an effort, guests love that. And another decoration tip: check all the party picTORIals on this site! -
My best parties were ones where everything I had for decor was all handmade. My Cricut Expression has been the best money I have ever spent for creating quick banners and cutting multiple die cuts for decor and projects. My daughter's last party was a Pirates and Pixies theme at our local park. I made tutu's for the girls as favors and the boys rocked eye patches and pirate hats. It was so fun to see everything that I had been making for weeks pull together for her special day. I love the different shaped paper lanterns you have strung across the table above. Fabulous idea and that clock is amazing! -
I would say the best tip or trick would be DIY! It is so fun and rewarding (as you know Tori) to get your hands dirty and make the sweet personal decorations that way your party has character and love! -
For me, there is no perfect decor. If I think about making every single thing perfect then I drive myself crazy! I use lots of banners. From crepe paper to pom poms... banners make any space look fab and full of party life! I also love signs. I recently threw my son a Lego Star Wars party and the food table was all the rage with the SW themed foods. Han Burgers to Yoda Soda, each item had a sign. It was super easy to make with my computer using Word and everyone thought they were adorable... urr I mean galaticly awesome!
