One of my fave things about this time of year is all of the deliciously decadent treats that come with the holiday season. No matter where you go – work, your local coffee shop, a holiday party – you’ll find festive foods infused with wintery and wonderful flavors. And to me, no flavor combo is better than chocolate and peppermint. Enter Dean’s Peppermint Brownies…
These brownies taste as good as they look, and to me are little slices of winter wonderland heaven. They’re super simple to make, which means Liam & Stella can get involved in the process, and the final product is out of this world. Chocolatey, minty, and all around delish. They’re the perfect holiday party crowd pleaser.
Dean’s Peppermint Brownie Recipe
Brownie Ingredients
- 3/4 Cup Of All-Purpose Flour
- 1 Cup Of Sugar
- 3 Eggs
- 1/4 Tsp Peppermint Extract
- 1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 Tsp Salt
- 1 Tsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 Cup Of Butter
- 4 Oz Of 100% Cacao Unsweetened Baking Bars
Toppings
- Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares With Mint Or Andes Mints (Enough To Line Top Of Brownie Tray)
- Crushed Candy Canes
For the instructions on how to make this festive treat, check out Dean’s post HERE.
And to turn this delish dessert into the perfect holiday gift for the foodista in your life, just throw all of the ingredients into a mason jar and voila! A festive foodie gift that anyone would love to receive. ![]()
To finish off this gift-in-a-jar, just print the instructions on a little gift tag, tie a couple of candy canes to the outside of the jar and you’re done.

Hi Tori and Dean,Could you possibly set up a "print" option for your recipes?I would love to try some of them but have found that they cannot be copied or printed in the current format.
Thanks.

I made Creme de Menthe Brownies from a Pinterest recipe http://www.momontimeout.com/2012/03/chocolate-mint-brownies-recipe/
They were SOOOOOO good! Rich and very fudgy, the way I love brownies!
Are you coming back on tv soon? We miss you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! -
These are in the oven now! Can't wait to try them. I'm not much of a cook, but so far these are easy! And my 4 year old daughter had fun crushing the candy canes and dumping in the pre-measured ingredients. I plan to take these treats to a friend's holiday party tomorrow. Thanks so much for the great ideas, T & D! Have a wonderful holiday season & happy new year! -
Thank you so much for the link to Dean's brownie recipe - going to give this a go with my kids over the holidays. Can I ask though, as I am in Australia, I am unsure what the equivalent might be for Cacao unsweetened baking bars?? Would I just be able to replace this with chocolate??? Thanks so much
ps - have a great christmas with your gorgeous kids xoxo -
YUM! We crush candy canes to put on our candy cane cookies. And I like to use them for my chocolate bark (layer of white chocolate mixed with crushed "Oreos", layer of chocolate, and sprinkled candy cane.
Being in favor of "natural" colors I get my candy canes from health food stores, or Trader Joe's. Trader Joe's is wonderful as all their candy is naturally colored! -
My kids were talking this morning about how they wanted to CRUSH candy canes like we did last year for peppermint bark!
One layer dark chocolate
One layer white chcolate
topped with crushed peppermint
broken into bite size pieces delicious!
We will be making these for sure! -
