Haute Hattie: On the Go

Feb 1, 2013 at 4:00am by Tori Spelling

BY9UsEX5SnjaEgzcxI0FUmb8.jpeg:Amazon:photo

I can’t believe how grown up my little Hattie Cat is getting.  Every day she gets bigger, sweeter and more and more mobile.  Now she’s at the point where she’s running all over the place, and exploring as much as she can. I love seeing her grow into her own little lady each day, but I’d be lying if I said I wish she wasn’t growing up so fast!

The other day we got her all bundled up in a cozy winter outfit (she looked super adorable) and were getting ready to leave the house.  I love the cozy winter hat mixed with an uber chic grey coat and white leggings. Looks like I’ve got another style icon in the making in my house! Well, after we got Hattie dressed and were heading to the door, I turned around to see my babe on her ride-on tricycle, looking like she was ready to head out on the open road (on her own!).  She’s getting more and more independent by the day, and to see her atop her trike, looking like she was heading out the door to run some errands made me smile.  My girl is growing up and watching her become her own little person is amazing. #ProudMama!

Did you have mixed emotions when your little ones started to grow up before your eyes?

Love,

T

Oh, yes, I hated to see my babies getting bigger and growing up. I hated when I couldn't hold them anymore. But dear little Hattie is a doll and she is showing she is getting big! What a cutie and I love her name! That is my favorite name for a girl. She is so sweet....

She's so adorable and I don't have kids yet, but I'm sure I will have mixed emotions when I do. :)

When our kids wake up from a nap, I just know it's because they were growing in their sleep!..especially when they eat a lot of crazy foods in a day. It's kind of sad..because as they get older they can't always be protected from the bad in the world, the suffering..when i see my son or daughter suffer on something, i suffer too.

It's a bit off-topic, but I just want to share this.
I first saw your show when I had just had my first baby. And every morning when she was taking a nap I watched "Tori & Dean" looking at you and your beautiful family. I did not know much about you, Tori, before, so I was absolutely amazed how wonderful mother you were. Your affection to your family was so heart-warming and actually made me want to be a better mother myself. And I clearly remember watching your show and wondering wether I will be lucky enough to have another child.
So some time passed and we were so blessed to welcome another daughter. And some weeks ago I happened to stumble upon your website and I read all these cute stories about your life. And then I realized that we had named our second daughter Stella …. and although I did not have you in mind while picking the name I think maybe subconsciously I was affected by your love to your daughter.
I wish all the best to you and your family! You are definitely someone who deserves to be happy!
P.S. Watching your kids grow up is always a mixture of pure joy and a bit of sadness. You want them to grow but at the same time you just want them to fit into you lap

There is something about Hattie that I can't put my finger on. All your kids are gorgeous, but Hattie has that certain something... As a Mum our kids are perfect - sometimes it needs somebody else to point it out to you when you have a child that is gifted, one way or the other, that as a parent you simply don't "see". x x x Love ya Tori.

I don't until I see a picture of them and remember how little they used to be. That just happened to me last week and it really made me stop and realize what a difference 10 years can make. We get so caught up in the day to day and forget how cute they were so relish these moments so that when they turn 14...you have great memories! LOL

My daughter is grown with two children of her own. I find myself thinking this about my grandchildren. They are growing up so fast, now 8 and 10 years old.

My last little baby turned 2 two days ago and I don't even know WHAT to feel about that! On one hand, it is so rewarding to watch them turn into their own little person, with thoughts and imaginations and personality... On the other hand, I want to swaddle her and rock her to sleep every night for the rest of her life. When your last child is growing up, it is such a bitter sweet emotion, because you know that each stage grown out of, is the last one you will experience with your own children. But we have grand children to look forward to! (not until they are 40! haha!)

SUCH mixed emotions!! It's so nice when they can do more and more on their own but then those baby days just slip away! It's a double edge sword ;(

Little Hattie appears to be so happy! Each of the McDermitt children is unique. Liam is the all around sporty guy. He's a leader if sorts. Stella loves her fashion and dressing up. Hattie is adventurous and loves to explore. Hattie is very engaging. She makes an attempt to answer questions when asked. I was amazed how she tried to respond to Dean when he was trying to ask Stella and Hattie how they felt about being big sisters to baby Finn. Stella answered with a smile yes and uhum, while Hattie wanted to express more. She is definitely carving out her own little niche in the family. She wants everyone to know that her name is Hattie!

My kids are grown, probably why I like to view your site, so I can enjoy your little ones too. It seems like yesterday that my baby, now 20 was Hattie's age. He is stationed near me so I still get to see him LOTS

I have always found the challenging times the most amazing . Like potty training, bed transition, things most people don't look forward to. But for me it tells me they are one step closer to becoming their own person. My kids always bring their little ones to me to start the potty training.

Motherhood according to me is all about that bittersweet mix feeling of being happy they grow up into beautiful individuals and being proud they get so wise and independent, but a little bit sad that the days of simple and homely happiness and manageable petty problems are quickly becoming a part of a very fond memory. It might have something to do with me getting older as well (where has my youth gone?) and my presence as a Mum who cuddles and cares is getting more and more superfluous. I might not be there to protect them when needed, or worse: when they are in danger, but cannot see the danger(Momma Bear alert). Mmm ... funny how a innocent post, suddenly catapults me into an overprotective, controlfreaky-ish mode ... sorry for that. All I wanted to say, is: recognizable!
