When I was pregnant with Hattie I decided make my own hospital gown. Being a DIY mama I knew I could do a lot better than the gowns given at the hospital or even sold at stores. So I picked a fabric and made my very own gown… I couldn’t wait to welcome my baby into this world wearing an uber-chic dress that was delivery room ready. But, it wasn’t meant to be. When I went into labor with Hattie, my contractions were so painful that I said, “Screw the hospital gown, give me the epidural!"
So, cut to less than a year later and pregnant with Finn I resolved to make a brand new gown and promised myself I would wear it on the big day. With the goal of making the chicest hospital gown in existence, Dean and I headed to the fabric store to pick out the perfect print:
There were so many gorgeous fabrics to choose from, but in the end I’m super happy with the one that we chose. After we got the fabric, there was still a lot of work to do! My friend Jess came over to help me drape and pin what I decided would be a hospital kaftan. There were a lot of considerations to make when figuring out the perfect style- it had to be just as functional as it was chic. Here’s a video of the design process, filmed by none other than first time camera operator Liam McDermott!
After Jess and I draped the material and I had decided how I wanted it to look I took it to a seamstress who made my hospital kaftan dreams come true. My DIY gown was super functional (stretchy, comfy, allowed for my IV and for my little man to breastfeed), and was definitely a huge hit at the hospital!
What do you think of my DIY hospital kaftan?
Love,
T

@charlenepyle what talk are you referring to? The words boob and breastfeed? You must be one of those moms who refer to farts as "tootie fruitys" anyway, great post Tori! Love the gown. Soooo you to custom make your hospital gown! Love!! I may be stealing your idea. :) -
I LOVE the idea of DIY hospital gowns - when I had my daughter, the ones I received were so stiff, so BLAH-ZAY! DH and I are trying for #2, so hopefully soon I will have that + test and can mimic this wonderful idea! -
The hospital gown is adorable and I liked when you showed us the many different fabrics at the store. I would have a hard time choosing too! Also, Liam is very cute and so sweet in this video. -

Brilliant! I remember trying to find a gown for both of mine and that was just for after giving birth. What a great idea! -

That is gorgeous!! You should definitely design your own maternity line. I'm due with #2 now and would love to have something like this for delivery. -
I love it! I know somebody already said this, but I totally agree. Please, please, please start a maternity line. Well, I should say a nice and affordable maternity line. :-) I would totally buy my maternity clothes from your line. I'm positive it would be a success with your taste, style, and ability to relate and connect with mothers and just people in general. -
This is such a cool idea!!! i'm a first time mom and due in feb, im gonna try to make this happen. :) -

Tori!
Great gown and great videos!
I wish I had a gown when I was giving birth!
The doctor always walked in when I was on my way to the bathroom with the back of the gown flapping in the wind!! My husband always covered the exposed part!!
Love the gown--- sell them!!!!! You'll make a bundle!! -

I think the gown was so pretty if i have more kids i'm going to want one of your gowns just make them affordable for all moms i admire u tori u are such wonderful mom and wife but most importantly u are a wonderful human being u are kind and generous that's why i like u so much. :) -
The gown is so pretty and I love your fabric choice! BTW, I think you need to sell these, especially to us women in the UK! The hospital doesn't provide birthing gowns over here (we're supposed to bring our own) and there really isn't much variety to buy over here. -

That was my favorite material that you were choosing from. Finished product.. WONDERFUL! Great design. Yes, I agree on the lovely family. Great filming by Liam, too! -
With 6 kiddos/deliveries, I would've loved to have had something so comfy and making me feel fabulous! I think it is a great idea for you to sell these! And Liam is too adorable! :) -
Tori, you are adorable! Such a chic Mama! When's the new season starting? Love you and Dean! You have a gorgeous family. Go team Guy! -
