The remake of Mother, May I Sleep with Danger premiered recently, and I’m so excited to share my pictures from the viewing party that I hosted! We set a big projector in the backyard, and had a bunch of our closest friends over to watch the movie together. Twenty years ago starred in the original version of the movie, as the daughter. And in this James Franco/Lifetime remake which is celebrating the 20th anniversary, I now play the mom! At one point in my career I was known as the ” TV movie queen”, because I did so many of them, and Mother, May I Sleep With Danger was always the most beloved… So much so that it became a cult classic! And every time one of my TV movies premiered, I always hosted a viewing party and made my famous lasagna. It was a little tradition/superstition, so for this one I had to follow tradition, but with a new take (just like the remake). So for this party, since it was a warm summer evening, I decided to rent an inflatable movie screen and projector and screen it as a “backyard movie night”. We had chic lawn chairs set up with blankets and tiki torches. Dean made appetizers and cocktails, and I made T’s Famous Meaty Lasagna. Take a look!
To keep with the party palette of red, black, gold and white, we served lots of rosé, red velvet cupcakes, black cherries, popcorn in vintage chic red & white striped bags and (my personal favorite) gold M&Ms.
The spread tasted just as good as it looked!
Kids (and adults) love mini Babybel cheese wheels, and the red and black packaging couldn’t be more fitting. These vintage-inspired “camp” lanterns were the perfect accessory for an al fresco screening.
Vampire teeth worked as fun favors for the guests, and also as inventive cake and décor details. Loved that book title – I’ve survived a few. (The book was actually a prop from a recent Lifetime shoot!)
Dean made the specialty cocktail of the evening called “Mother May I DRINK With Danger?” A strawberry- rhubarb (my fave!) lemonade w/vodka and topped with Prosecco and dry ice and a No Danger version minus the vodka and Prosecco.
Nighttime outside was the perfect setting to watch the movie…
Absolutely loved Leila George, who played my daughter in the film. Fun fact – Leila has acting in her blood (no pun intended). She is the daughter of actors Greta Scacchi and Vincent D’Onofrio.
Zoe Sidel, who plays one of the beautiful vampires, also comes from long, a prolific line of talented thespians. She is the daughter of Rosanna Arquette.
And then to end the night we brought out what I’m pretty sure is the first ever #lesbianvampire cake! As a tribute to the movies theme! Disclaimer: the cake was brought out AFTER the kids went to bed. It was definitely for adult eyes only! And my culinary hubby and I made it together!
Hope you liked seeing my pics from the party! Did you have a chance to watch the new MMISWD yet? Would love to hear what you thought!
