The weekend before last, Stella and I were in a crafty mood so we decided to take a standard white tank and put our tie-dyed touch on it and, as promised, I wanted to share how we did it with you! So, here goes:
First and foremost, before you dye anything, you should wash it so that the color stays and so that the sizing is correct. Once you’ve done that, you can really get started.
1. We laid her shirt out flat and folded it left to right like an accordion and then twisted it tight and tied it off with tight, tight rubber bands. Depending on the design you want to attain there are many creative folding and tying options. We wanted horizontal lines on ours!
2. Prepare your dye according to the directions on the box or bottle.
3. Start dyeing! If you’re doing more than one color, it’s good to start with the lightest color first so that you can dye over it, but since we were only using one color, we just dove right in.
We wanted to add some detail to the shirt, so we decided to cut up some floral lace and glued onto the tank with fabric glue.
We made one for Hattie, too!
And of course, we couldn’t leave Liam out of the fun, so he got down and tie-dye dirty too:
So now all the McDermott kids are happily tie-dyed!
We were quite the happy family! It’s a great, fun way to give the kids hours of entertainment and let them show off their creative sides.
How do you keep the kids entertained on the weekends?
