Earlier this year Dean and I decided we’d like to have our own Shabbat dinner with the kids and close friends and it turned out to be a huge success. Even though this is historically a religious tradition, it’s easy to reinvent and adapt to fit any family.
The process of preparing the food as a family, sitting down to eat together and Dean reading a blessing was really special. It’s nice to have a weekly time and tradition to gather your loved ones and slow down for a moment.
The kids also loved it. Liam was so excited about it he said, “I love this! Can we do Shabbat dinner every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday?”
I’d love to know, do you have any reinvented traditions of your own? How do you slow down and spend time with your family each week? Let me know in the comments below.
