Eco-Chic: My New Vintage Wood Floors

From wardrobe to decor, my love affair with vintage runs deep. While I’ve always collected (aka hoarded) amazing flea market and estate sale finds, I’ve recently discovered a new obsession: vintage flooring.

We recently installed eco-chic, reclaimed wood floors from The Vintage Wood Floor Company in our new home, and I’m so happy with how they turned out. Here’s a glimpse (I’ll be blogging lots more about our new home, so stay tuned):

These vintage floors have character and a history all their own, having originally been part of an old farmhouse. They have scratches, personal carvings and other flaws that create a perfectly worn-in look. A major plus if you happen to have kids, dogs, pigs, goats and chickens running around! You’re not only helping the environment by using reclaimed wood, but you’re also creating a vintage chic look… which will make you the envy of all decor mavens.

Have you ever considered vintage or reclaimed wood flooring in your home? Tell me what you think of my new floors in the comments below.

They are absolutely beautiful! I worked in an office that had reclaimed wood from a 100 year old mill as their floors and they were beautiful as well. I’m glad to find out there is a source I can go to, to find them as I had no clue where to get beautiful old flooring.

We have hardwood, it is not vintage, but I do love the look and feel of wood. I would absolutely love to have floors like those though, so gorgeous and unique. I LOVE your new (or old?) wood floors! I too have wood floors in my home which I love. However, I was hoping you could share your cleaning secrets with all of us. My wood floors over the past two or three years have become dingy, they almost look like they have a layer of film on them. I have struggled with cleaners since we’ve moved into the house and I think the layer of film is from all of the bad or wrong cleaners which I have tried. I even have tried white vinegar, murphys oil soap, and my favorite so far, Bona! But, none has been able to fully remove the film. So there I sit week after week on my hands and knees trying to make my floors look clean and shiny. The biggest tip I have received from somebody was using Windex half strength and then scrubbing the planks with rags. This has made the most improvement. Any tips you can share are much appreciated. I love your show, and watch each and every week!

These floors are AMAZING!!! I love barn wood and reclaimed wood. I like wood floors but I LOVE these. I love hisTORI in houses and furniture and things that’s why I too love vintage. I love thinking about what other feet have walked across those floors, what other children spilled milk and momma’s wiped it up. If those boards could speak what sTORI’s would they tell and what will they say when you are done. I LOVE them they couldn’t be more perfect! Nice job Momma!

  • Jacki Hessel

Gorgeous! (As usual). From the little peak we got on the finale, the house looks great! I love the downsizing idea so, you can get cozy! Those floors look amazing and will line your cozy hideaway in style! Well done! Can’t wait to see the hoves and baby feet running across it next season. You hear that Oxygen? Tori and Dean are mandaTORI!!!!

  • Sara Krug

My dream floors! Just gorgeous. With our beautiful white carpet now stained with everything under the sun, including pee (from the kids, not us;) I now realize the value of hardwood floors when you have young children. Question: how did you/do you finish the floors so the kids don’t get splinters?

  • Diana Barletta

    love it !

  • frequestflyer Tammy

  • Tami Sibley

They are so AMAZING! I want to do this badly to my floors as well! I have been looking into using reclaimed wood from pallets though. My husband and I just bought a 1923 house with the original wood floors still intact. They are worn and totally beat up, but with small kids and pets I would never dream of refurbishing them! There would be no point! The blemishes give it character!

  • Shanny

Old Wood is absolutely stunning in anyway way it is used. My hubby and I build Furniture and some small home decor itemsfrom old century barn wood. I Love the historic feeling to it. This is one of my favorite peices he built

  • Sleephead

  • Lee Mullin

I love reclaimed flooring. Especially mixing old flooring with a new moderan and clean room like in your photo! It reminds us that we all leave a footprint and to treat everything well so hopefully we can hand our things down for someone else to use in the future.

The green ottoman is amazing in this room and it gives the feel of fresh and cozy all at the same time. I could read all afternoon long in this room…maybe even watch a baseball game cozied up on the couch next to the hubs.

  • cathy santbaha

you’re terrific in all you do. great motivators.

  • Carolyn Marshall

I LOVE your new floors! They are gorgeous.

  • Tamatha Knighton

Love the floor!!!My grandparents used to live in a farmhouse that had the real wood floors that would creak when you walked! How I love and miss those floors!! It is truly hard to find those “real” wood floors!! AMAZING!! Reminds me of my childhood!!

  • Nic King

Absolutely love the floors!! I love reclaimed wood. There is a church near us that was sold and they were selling pieces and we bought a pew. It is roughly 100 years old. They were also selling the floor but we didn’t have a place to store it or install it. It looked very similar to what Tori installed.

  • Melissa Vella

You are so smart, I would have never though of it. Great job! BTW, loving the website:)

  • Stephanie Klaus

Love the floors, the look of no consistency in the grain is beautiful and so natural. and with a history…great idea!

  • Amber Yahorau

The floors look amazing! I just removed carpeting from my LR to expose the hardwood underneath, only to find that about 1/3 of it is subfloor where renovations were made. What can you suggest to cover that section with- with a DIY and tiny budget in mind? There are pictures in my photo album.

  • Robin Mallory

This is a great idea. I want to get wood floors in my house but I was worried the dogs would scratch it all up. Hopefully I can ge the hubby to agree to something like this.

  • Cheyenne
