Holiday Style: Sheer Genius

Sheer has been a common thread (yes, pun intended) of the Fall 2011 and Spring/Summer 2012 Fashion shows. The designer Azzedine Alaia is a big inspiration for this trend. Referred to as the “King of Cling” Alaia celebrates the female form using sheer textiles in a way that is demure, provocative and timeless. It’s no wonder the popular 90’s film Clueless had every budding fashionista looking up the designer after Cher’s famous line, “You don’t understand, this is an Alaia.”

Check out the group shot below of super models posing in Alaia creations circa the late 80s – that’s Christy Turlington on the left.

Whether a blouse, skirt or vintage-inspired ensemble, sheer is an investment piece that every momista should have in her closet. Check out head-to-toe looks styled for you below:

Sheer Blouse

A sheer top is the perfect way to play peek-a-boo without over exposure. The first look features a sheer blouse in on-trend animal print.

I recommend wearing a sexy black bra or camisole underneath. Wear with black skinnies or straight leg jeans, flats, Chanel-inspired jewelry and a skinny red belt that gives the look just the right amount of pop.

For an evening look, simply swap out the flats for a simple black heel or knee-high boot.

Sheer Skirt

Want to show off those gorgeous gams without wearing a thigh-high mini? I would like to introduce you to the sheer maxi.

Vintage Sheer

This look is inspired by 70s chic, and it’s one that my mom used to wear. As a young girl, I remember seeing her in ensembles like a sheer blouse and high-waisted wide leg pant.

I really have to let my guard down and come to grasp the sheer style again…I went to go and pick my 70 year old aunt up to take her to the grocery store and she came out of her house with a sheer white blouse with a bright purple bra on underneath and bright purple pants and was really proud of herself because she thought it looked terrific. I have to give her kudos in one sense for having the “you know what’s” to do that and of course I just smiled and shook my head in approval but on the other hand it is still etched in my mind. I’m sorry Tori, when I read this I just had to share.

Have to share with you that I bought the same sheer blouse, animal print only mine was short sleeves! It also came with a tank top! I wore it for Thanksgiving! It was a little too big, but it was really nice! I paid $4.60 for it! Also had purchased earlier, a pair of slip on sandals, with a little heel, animal print!! Paid $5.00 for them, like new! The designer was Anne Taylor! It was from our local Thrift store! I don’t usually go there too often, but my mom has bought mostly all of her clothes their and they are of high quality & designer names! She is 77yrs old & always wears skirts when she goes out! All beautiful! Love your Vintage looks, Tori! That sheer maxi is out of this world! Love that!! Thanks for your fashion sense!! Love ya T!smiley-smile.gif
